The Armenian Church celebrated the Nativity (Soorp Dzenoont) and the Baptism of Jesus Christ on 6 January 2024. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the mystery of our Lord’s Baptism in the River Jordan, at the commencement of His ministry, was remembered in the ceremony of the Churorhnek, or the “Blessing of Water.”
The Episcopal Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian. George Shahinian was given the honour of being the Godfather of the Cross as he held the cross upright, after it was taken out of the blessed water.
Following Holy Mass, led by the procession of the diaconate and choir, Archbishop Najarian was escorted into the Edgarian Hall where the blessing of residence was conducted with water, salt and bread and afterwards distributed amongst the congregation.
