On Thursday 4 February 2016 on the 1565th year commemorating the Saints of Vartanants, His Grace Bishop Haigazoun Najarian celebrated Holy Mass and delivered his sermon in the Church of Holy Resurrection with over 200 pupils, 15 teachers and Principals of the AGBU Alexander Primary School and the Hamazkaine Galstaun College present.
This is the second year of what has now become a tradition of Armenian students and faculties gathering to commemorate this significant feast day in the calendar of the Armenian Church. The students devoutly listened and participated in the Divine Liturgy taking Holy Communion, understanding the solemnity of the event,
In his sermon Bishop Najarian explained why the Battle of Vartanants was so significant for the Armenian victory of Christian faith despite the consequences of loss and how “Knowing death is to understand immortality”.
When the service concluded students and teachers were served refreshments by the Church Ladies Auxiliary in the hall providing an opportunity for all to mingle together.
The afternoon continued back in the church when the Principals of both schools addressed all the participants and students presented a program of songs and recitations suitable for the occasion. Together they then watched an interesting video on “Everyone Prays at Holy Etchmiadzin” before returning back to their schools spiritually refreshed and nourished for the academic year ahead.
