At the start of each academic year, the Church of Holy Resurrection invites graduating Higher School Certificate students from the previous year to a blessing service as they embark on their tertiary studies and vocations, followed by the opportunity to meet with the Primate to receive his fatherly message.
On Sunday 10 March 2019, some 60 students, parents and representatives of the Diocesan and Parish Councils met with His Eminence Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian in the Diocesan Centre after the church service. This occasion also gives rise to the presentation of annual Church Educational Scholarships to students ranked highest in HSC Armenian Language studies and All-Rounders who have achieved over 90% in at least five subjects.
This year’s recipient of the Armenian Scholarship was Davit Melkumyan of the Saturday School of Community Languages and the All-Rounder Scholarship was awarded to Aree Yapoudjian of St Aloysius College. Both students received their respective scholarships by their patrons, one of whom is Dr Artin Jebejian. He addressed the students and in particular, to his scholarship recipient who will study Medicine, emphasising the need to follow in the instruction of the first healer, Jesus Christ, who came into this world to heal souls.
In his congratulatory words to the students and their teachers, Archbishop Najarian reminded them the importance of education and the responsibility to apply themselves to their nation and church.
