On Sunday 18 April 2021 The Armenian Genocide Commemoration Vigil took place. The special service was organised by The Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection Sydney Australia, The Armenian Catholic Church Australia and The Armenian Evangelical Uniting Church of Sydney, with the participation of Barnabas Fund Charitable Organisation.
Our heartfelt thanks to all who participated, including Father Parsegh Sousanian, Rob Floyd (Associate General Secretary of Uniting Church Australia Assembly), Rev. Hagop Sarkissian, Rev. Graham Perry (Uniting Church), Rev. Krikor Youmshajekian and Jude Simion (Barnabas Fund).
Reverend Ashley Saunders, the CEO of Barnabas Fund Australia shared his reflections on the significance of remembering, as they relate to the Bible and following on to events such as the importance of remembering genocide.
The readings were interspersed with musical performances, including Soprano Natalie Aroyan (accompanied by Alex Sahagian) who sang a beautiful rendition of “Ave Maria”, Marianna Poghosyan (accompanied by Boghos Keleshian), who performed a haunting “Lord, Save the Armenians” and Boghos Keleshian who sang “Der Voghormia”.
The Armenian Evangelical Church Choir’s presentation of “I will Not Deny My Faith” (accompanied by Carlo Purzekian) moved Reverend Ashley Saunders to repeat the words of the song, “I will never lose my faith, I will never deny Him, I will carry the cross, Till I meet my Lord again.”
The Vigil concluded with prayers by His Eminence Archbishop Haigzoun Najarian, followed by refreshments at the Arachnortaran.
