On Sunday 11 May 2025, under the auspices of His Grace Bishop Vardan Navasardyan, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Australia and New Zealand, The Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection proudly hosted the unforgettable “Merci Charles” tribute concert at the Concourse Concert Hall, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the legendary Charles Aznavour. Coinciding with Mother’s Day, the concert created an atmosphere filled with emotion, nostalgia and cultural pride.
The evening was a heartfelt homage to the legacy of Aznavour – a cultural icon whose music transcends time and borders. The event brought together audience from across Sydney’s Armenian, French and broader multicultural community to celebrate the enduring legacy of Aznavour – a global icon of music, identity and human emotion.
The concert featured the extraordinary singer and actor Hayk Petrosyan on vocals accompanied by a stellar ensemble of virtuoso musicians from Armenia:
- Vahagn Hayrapetyan – Piano
- Davit Geodakian – Bass
- Arman Mnatsakanyan – Drums
- Daniel Melkonian – Trumpet
Together, they delivered masterful performances of Aznavour’s most cherished songs, including classics such as “La Bohème,” “She,” and “Hier Encore,” captivating the audience and earning enthusiastic standing ovations throughout the night.
The event was not only a musical triumph but also a moving tribute to Armenian heritage, artistic excellence and the universal power of music to connect hearts across generations.
