The long awaited Jubilee Concert took place on 6 August 2017 at Our Lady Of Colours Church featuring the mesmerising sounds of Luys Quintet.

There were many distinguished guests present, including  Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of NSW, Jonathan O’Dea MP, David Clarke MP, Greg Donnelly MLC, Julian Leeser MP, Ray Willliams MP, Trent Zimmerman MP and the Mayor of Willoughby Gail Giles-Gidney.

Der Avetis Hambardzumyan commenced the proceedings with a brief background into the 60 year anniversary of the Armenian Apostolic Church followed by an introduction to the Quintet.

Nuran Zorlu then spoke about his love of history and philosophy as he introduced his photos that formed the backdrop of the concert.

The Luys Quintet commenced with the haunting sounds of Sacred Spiritual Songs, including those by Komitas and Mesrop Mashtots.

The keynote speech by our young ACYA member Ilda Zorlu, mentioned her ties to the Church that span over three generations in Australia.

Traditional Folkloric Songs by the Quintet filled the second half of the program, with many familiar songs that had the audience singing along with much delight.

Bishop Haigazoun Najarian closed off the proceedings with reference to the many people that have dedicated their service to the Church over the last 60 years.

The Parish Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection, which hosted the event, is very thankful to everyone for all their hard work in bringing this event to fruition.
