The Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection held a special service on Sunday September 15, to honor the major feast day of Khatchverats: the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. After the service, which was presided over by Reverend Father Avetis Hambardzumyan, the procession made their way outside where specially prepared Harissa by the ACLA was served on the church lawns.
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the last major Feastday on the Armenian calendar. The Exaltation refers to the True Cross on which Christ was crucified. The Cross is significant to Christians as a symbol of hope, love and salvation. We worship the idea or the mystery behind the Holy Cross, a hope that is reflected in our faith in the Resurrection of Christ. It reminds us of the sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf and what our response should be in our daily lives.
