On Sunday 10 December 2023, on the 35th anniversary of the 1988 earthquake of Armenia, a special requiem service took place for the repose of souls of the victims.
The faithful were invited to partake in this time of remembrance to pay their respects to those who perished.
The earthquake which measured a magnitude of 6.9, hit the Spitak region of Armenia on 7 December. Between 25,000 and 50,000 people were killed and up to 130,000 were injured, with thousands more left homeless. The earthquake devastated Spitak, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Stepanavan and surrounding villages.
