On 30 April 2023, the third Sunday of Hinoonk, is deemed as Red Sunday by the Armenian Apostolic Church. Archpriest Father Norayr Patanian was the celebrant and homilist whilst the Karasoun Mangounk Youth Choir was joined by the Sunday School Children for part of the Holy Mass.

Although there seems to be no ecclesiastical origin or significance for Red Sunday, the colour red recalls numerous themes within Christianity and the tradition of the Armenian Church. It is the blood of Jesus Christ that redeems and heals us, the source of life which spilled into the ground from the Cross to give life and salvation to the entire created order.

We are also reminded of the blood of the countless martyrs whose witness unto death ensured the continued existence of the Church, from the day of Pentecost to this day.
