On 25th March 2018, Palm Sunday was celebrated with the Divine Liturgy when the altar curtain reopened after being closed for the period of Lent.
The celebration marked the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as he rode on a donkey, crowds gathered to greet him spreading cloaks and branches before him, shouting “Hosanna in the highest” to welcome the long-awaited Messiah.
Following the Divine Liturgy, which was accompanied by the Karasoun Mangounk Childrens’ Choir, the Trnpatsek (Opening of the Doors) took place.
Palm Sunday is proclaimed Children’s Blessing Day in the Armenian Apostolic Church as the traditional children’s procession saw the arrival of all the children holding their decorated candles as they entered the Church. A special blessing service for the children took place before the altar. At the conclusion of the Church service, the procession was led outside by the celebrant, Father Avetis Hampartzoumian to the Edgarian Hall. Here the children kissed the Holy Bible and then received special treats.
The ACLA provided some lovely refreshments and the ACYA continued the special Children’s Day theme with organised activities on the church lawns for all the children.
