The Pontiff St James (Soorp Hagop) of Nisibis is one of the authoritative and beloved saints of the Universal Church.
The Commemoration of Soorp Hagop took place on Sunday 18 December 2022. Archpriest Der Bartev Karakashian was the celebrant and homilist for this special Divine Liturgy, which included a blessing of all those named Hagop.
As has now become a custom, a procession followed of a beautiful artefact, found by renowned alpinist Tito de Luco, took place commemorating St James’ divine vision on Mt Ararat where he found the sacred relic of Noah’s Ark and brought it to the Armenian people.
