Commemorating the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, on Wednesday 24 April 2024, Holy Mass was offered in the Diocese’s mother church, the Church of Holy Resurrection.
The celebrant was the Primate of Australia and New Zealand, His Eminence Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian. In his sermon, Archbishop reflected on the legacy of the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide and the current challenges faced by our church and nation.
Immediately following the Holy Mass, led by the Homenetmen scouts and marching band, the church procession made its way to the genocide memorial khatchkar in Beauchamp Park, where a service was held in memory of the Holy Martyrs.
A large number of Armenian community members, clergy, heads and official representatives of Armenian organisations attended the Holy Liturgy, the procession and the requiem service. Among the invited guests, the Mayor of Willoughby Tanya Taylor, the Mayor of Ryde Sarkis Yedelian, high ranking Council and municipal officials and parliamentary figures, some of whom shared their remarks and laid a wreath before the khatchkar.
