On 19 March 2023, The Sunday of the Judge brought with it an inspirational sermon by Archpriest Father Patanian on Prayer and perseverance; having constant communion with God is revealed through an unjust and unrighteous judge who was the centre of this day’s message.
Following the Lenten Arevakal service, last year’s HSC graduates were called forth for the annual graduates’ HSC blessing by His Eminence Haigazoun Najarian.
The graduates and their families were then invited to the Arachnortaran for the presentation of awards.

This beautiful tradition was adopted by Holy Resurrection Church and now for many years, awards of appreciation have been awarded to the students from both Armenian and non Armenian schools, who have achieved outstanding results in their HSC exams.

Dr & Mrs Harutyun and Maro Jebejian generously sponsored $1,000 each to the All Round Achievers scholarships, which were awarded to Kiara Tachjian (Mercy Catholic College) and George Keledjian (Tempe High School). After addressing all the students, Dr Jebejian also presented each with a St Gregory of Nareg’s “Book of Lamentations”.

Varty Garabet was awarded Top Ranking Student of HSC Armenian in 2022, which means that Varty achieved the highest result of Armenian students in New South Wales who had elected Armenian language as a HSC subject. This award is sponsored through an Endowment Fund established in memory of Levon Shohmelian who valued the opportunity for education and the teaching of our mother language. The award of $1,000 was presented by Dr Garo Artinian, representing Mrs Mary Shohmelian, the widow of the late Levon Shohmelian, and the family.

The award recipients also received appreciation certificates from Holy Resurrection Church.

In his closing remarks, after congratulating the students, their parents and the sponsors, the Primate directed his attention to the students, stating, “Your parents made many sacrifices in order to offer you the opportunity for a quality education. And now, it is your turn to do your utmost, to choose your direction for a bright future”.

Refreshments were served, prepared by the Diocesan Ladies Guild.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking (John 1:5)
