On Sunday 14 March 2021, HSC graduates and top-ranking students from the Armenian community were welcomed at the Church of Holy Resurrection for a blessing as they embark on a new academic and vocational year. Following the church service, the students with their families were welcomed in the Diocesan Centre for an intimate gathering with Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian.
Some 12 HSC students attended including three students who were presented the annual educational scholarships awarded by the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection made possible by the generous sponsorship of Dr and Mrs Harutyun and Maro Jebejian for the All Round Achievers and the Levon Shohmelian Endowment Fund for the top-ranking achiever in Armenian Language Continuers’ subject.
The successful 2020 candidates of the All-Round Scholarship were Adina Carapetian of Riverside Girls High School and Raffy Beylerian of North Sydney Boys High School. The Armenian Continuers’ top ranking student and Scholarship recipient was Carlo Berzekian of the Saturday Community Languages School and Christian Covenant School. Each scholarship recipient was presented a cheque for $1,000 and a Certificate of Commendation from the Church.
In his words of encouragement to all the students, the Archbishop congratulated every student on their individual accomplishments and encouraged them to make use of whatever skills and talents God had blessed them with to benefit their community, church and national life. Carlo Berzekian then expressed gratitude on behalf of the students in his articulate Armenian, extending words of appreciation to their educators, parents, scholarship patrons, the Church and the Archbishop specifically for his guidance and spiritual leadership
